FERGUSSON RESERVE

Public BBQ

Fergusson Reserve sprawls across Kidman Park like a suburban prairie with ambitions slightly larger than its facilities can handle. The centrepiece barbecue appears to have been designed for a family of modest appetites, while the basketball court suggests someone once harboured dreams of neighbourhood championships. A few strategically placed trees prevent any serious football match from breaking out, though they do provide welcome shade and the delightful nespoli tree puts on quite a show during spring blooms. There's ample grass for the kids to burn energy, and the western suburbs location means you won't fight crowds for a decent parking spot. The reserve delivers exactly what families need: space to spread out, basic facilities that work, and that particular Australian charm of making do with what you've got. It's honest suburban recreation at its most refreshingly unpretentious.
